Trojan Debater Wins Political Science Award

June 11, 2003 — The Trojan Debate Squad is proud to announce that Marissa Silber (Class of '04) has won the William Lammers Award for the best undergraduate paper in Political Science during the 2002-03 academic year. Her thesis, "Caution: Children at War," was chosen among a strong group of candidates. The Lammers Award includes a $250 prize, a certificate, and luncheon in her honor.

Mark Kann, Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science, described why the committee made their decision, "Marissa Silber's thesis is a marvelously creative effort to investigate four different perspectives on why children become soldiers. It is crucial to understand "why" children become soldiers in order to take appropriate steps to solve the problem of child soldiering. Marissa's scholarship is part of the solution."

Congrats to Marissa on an outstanding accomplishment.
