Our Tournaments

USC’s Trojan Debate Squad hosts a number of competitions and events for high school students and teachers both in the immediate Los Angeles area and throughout the United States. Our scheduled events for the 2011-2012 season includes:

Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate League
(LAMDL) Season Opener

October 12th & 13th, 2012

This tournament is open to all students and coaches of the USC Neighborhood Debate League and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate League. The tournament features 4 rounds of preliminary policy debate competition in novice, junior varsity and open divisions, followed by two elimination debates. No entry fee is required for participation, though USC-NDL/LAMDL member coaches must register for the tournament in advance via tabroom.com

Ronald Reagan Great Communicator Debate SeriesSouthwestern Regional Championship

USC Trojan Debate is proud to be partnering with theWalter and Leonore Annenberg Presidential Learning Center and theRonald Reagan Presidential Library to take part in a civics debate program to coincide with the 2012 Presidential election.

The debate series utilizes three stages of competition that begins with an open invitation to every high school and culminates with Regional Champions flown to the National Championship at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library to compete for thousands of dollars in scholarship funds. Our regional championship is open to any school champion in the Southwest.

The series is designed to align with the final debates of the 2012 presidential election; promote civic engagement; highlight the legacy of President Reagan as both “The Great Communicator” and a legendary presidential debater, and provide a showcase for many of the nation’s most promising high school communicators.

David Damus Trojan Championships

November 2nd -4th, 2012

The David Damus Trojan Championships are hosted annually at USC and are open to high school students from across the United States. Featuring JV and Varsity divisions in Policy and Lincoln-Douglas debates, the David Damus Trojan Championships are an annual step toward the Tournament of Champions for many high school students. This year’s tournament will yield Quarters bids in Policy Debate, and Semis bids in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Los Angeles City Championships

April, 2013 (Date TBA)

The Los Angeles City Championships marks the close of the debate season for students participating in the USC-NDL/LAMDL. Now in its fourth year, the Los Angeles City Championships establish the best and brightest debaters participating in urban debate leagues in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. The tournament features 4 rounds of preliminary policy debate competition in novice, junior varsity and open divisions, followed by two elimination debates. No entry fee is required for participation, though USC-NDL/LAMDL member coaches must register for the tournament in advance via DebateResults.com
